Roofs are considered horizontal flat surfaces and since they cover a large square footage area you will need a sophisticated gear in order to make your pressure washing job fast and efficient. The most commonly used device for this kind of application is a Flat Surface Cleaner. For roof power cleaning we recommend 20" pressure washer surface cleaner and/or 24" pressure washer surface cleaner.

House and building roofs are one of the hardest surfaces to pressure wash. The biggest enemy of roofs is the black fungus. Fungus in general feed on moisture and nutrient and if the roof is surrounded by trees, lake or a pool and if outside weather is humid and warm, fungus will grow and spread rapidly. As a result, the fungus will deteriorate the quality of the roof and it will also make it look old and hideous by turning it into a dark and/or totally black surface. The roof covered with fungus will absorb more heat due to its black pigmentation.
Such hot roof surface will relay the heat through the ceiling into the residential home, office or other type of building causing the increase in room temperature. These factors will result in higher utility bills. Also, the presence of fungus in close proximity to a living environment can create health problems to younger children and those with allergy problems. In some instances, fungus can cause other problems by spreading through cracks and splits into a residential area.
Experienced pressure washing workers know that asphalt shingles, slate (old stone), and wooden shakes are popular in the Northeast regions and that in the Southern states the most popular materials for roofing are cement tiles, barrel tiles, finished and unfinished mansards, wooden shakes, metal, and asphalt. Because of the continuous high temperatures and humidity throughout the whole year, the majority of roofs in the southern states need to be cleaned every few years. Depending on the weather conditions the cleaning periods for northern states can sometimes be longer.
Many pressurewashing contractors use bleach or chlorine as a main cleaning solution for removing mold and fungus. Even though those substances will remove dirt, they will create problems to other surfaces. They will brighten brick creating different color shades, and they will also kill the plants surrounding the object being cleaned. Bleaches will kill fish or marine life and will turn the cement into sand over repeated use. In addition, the bleach or chlorine will rust all the metal parts on a house such as gutters and vinyl siding.
